Strider has always been as headstrong as his son, though being a herd leader gave him a sense of responsibility that was never present before in his personality. As a young stallion, he was reckless and hard to control. He hated to sit (or stand) still for long periods of time, and was always on the move. When he met Esperenza (see history), his stallion instincts kicked in, and he started to act his age, becoming the horse that his future herd would need to survive. His recklessness turned into stubborn leadership, and nothing angered him more than being captured and taken away from his herd. Now, the Calvary has 'tamed' him to a quiet, brooding stallion, though he has every intention to act up when provoked. He hates the army with a passion, and wants nothing more than to return to his herd, so he can see his mare Esperenza and his son (now full grown) Spirit once again. Despite his headstrong traits, he is a thoughtful horse, and spends much time in his head. He often can be worrisome, and sometimes wonders whether or not Esperenza took another mate, or gave up on him, or worries that another stallion took over the herd and hurt his son, or that his son is no longer with the herd. His sleep is fitful as he worries often about what has happened in his absence. To sum it up, Strider is a brave, headstrong leader, but sometimes finds himself trapped in his own thoughts.
