to claim the plains territory simply post a roleplaying claim post for your equine character below, and make sure your describe the horse well as well as what his role will be in the grand scheme of things - especially in contrast with the cimarron herd.
this is not first come first serve.

The young mare cantered up the hillside, a fresh scent in her nostrils. It was the scent of the cimarron herd, and so she veered off into the distance. She cantered until she reached the canyon, and took in a deep breathe. What a beautiful, most lovely place! Although she was very arrogant and selfish, she did care about others and had always dreamed of being the perfect leader. She bowed down to nobody, but did not care a bit for being a bully or just plain mean. She hoped that if this land was not already claimed, she could create a herd of her own, one that would not tolerate bullying, and where the horses would be tough, yet happy. They would have to be tough to survive here, what with the canyons and the few grazing areas, along with a small creek that ran through here. All the same, it seemed like the perfect hideout from the humans. Her eyes closed as she exhaled slowly, then inhaled again.
Rearing up, she looked down at the plains below her, the canyons, and the creek. "If no one else will take this land, then I will! To create a tough, yet gentle and kind herd... that will not tolerate bullies nor to be bullied! One that is friends with the cimarron, yet loathes the humans. And most of all, one that is to create a freedom of a new kind, a freedom without any humans at all.. For where would they find us? This holds the best hiding areas around! I promise I will fight for this herd, to be the number one leader, and to keep peace with the cimarron.. and in the grand scheme of things, to be the one herd that will rise against the humans, proving that all horses.. at least here.. deserve to be FREE!"
She reared once more, bucking wildly. Tossing her head up and holding it up in an oddly snake-like warrior fashion. Challenging, daring, anyone to try and stop her from claiming this land. She stomped one hoof, her eyes wild with a fire of passion. "The plains herd..." The name rolled off her tongue like water. Her nostrils flared as she marked her territory all around, the final claim to this land. The plains herd!

Akecheta sighed as he examined the air. It smelled like bliss. Sweet, unclaimed bliss. He trotted up a small incline in the red canyons and climbed to the highest point he could reach, which overlooked everything. The sight was breathtaking, rolling plains to one side and vast desert to the other. The wind picked up and tousled his mane, and he closed his eyes. He had never felt as confident as he felt now, the image of a large herd of strong-willed, finely conformed horses that he was leading danced in his head. He had been born as an heir to the hardy ponies in the mountains, but when he was a yearling, his life changed. He had narrowly managed to avoid being captured, only to be captured later by the Indians, who never broke him, and who lost him when the cavalry attacked. They had almost taken him too, but he fought them off, and since living free for three years, he has had many thoughts and dreams about being the leader of his very own herd. No horse would ever mock him if he were a leader, and he would do his best to protect his herd. He decided while standing on that bluff, that he wanted a herd. He wanted to create a new legacy, and carry on like his father before him. His frosted coat shivered with excitement, muscles quivering with anticipation. He reared up and struck the ground with a front hoof, challenging anyone to take the plains from him. He arched his muscular neck and scanned the area.
